Whose button is bigger, and is there even a button?
Questions, the internet is mulling over after a new war of words broke out between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.
Trump tweeted, “...I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!” The saber rattling a direct response to Kim’s New Year’s address. “The entire United States is within range of our nuclear weapons and a nuclear button is always on my desk.” While it’s a potent image, thankfully, starting World War III isn’t so simple.
In fact, there is no button!
There is however a football, the name of this 45-pound briefcase containing potential targets, which follows the president wherever he goes.
As for North Korea, it’s doubtful Kim has a nuclear button either, so the internet did what it does best and called out the two men.
Pop legend Cher, a known Trump critic tweeted, “Trump is a nut job who is playing, ‘whose [eggplant emoji] is bigger,’ with another nut job from North Korea… They’re probably both the size of ‘Tom Thumb.’” People did astutely point out that Trump does has a small button, reportedly used for ordering Diet Cokes.
Another longing for the days when the fights were over hand size.
The Daily Show hopeful war won’t come till at least Monday, noting Trump’s plan to doll out fake news awards next week.
Lawmakers too likely wishing for a less rocky start to 2018.
Democratic Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts tweeting, "Imagine being a servicemember or the family of a servicemember stationed in Korea and reading this.
This borders on presidential malpractice."
