Why Man Utd do not need any January signings - Steve McClaren

JOSE MOURINHO does not need any new faces at Manchester United in January - and he knows it.

Steve McClaren insists Manchester United do not need new signings this month

That is the belief of former United coach Steve McClaren.

The Red Devils could strengthen their squad this month in a bid to close the gap to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side are running away with the title, sitting 12 points clear of Manchester United.

But Mourinho’s team are sitting second and await a Champions League last 16 tie with Sevilla.

And McClaren feels the Portuguese already has enough talent at his disposal.

When asked if Mourinho needs to strengthen his squad in January, McClaren said on Sky Sports: “No I don’t think so.

“I think he just needs to get people fit. Lukaku, Ibrahimovic are examples”

“I think he just needs to get people fit. Lukaku, Ibrahimovic are examples.

“But I think he’s got a good enough squad and it’s very very difficult to find a player of top top quality which is always required at Manchester United and [one] that will actually come to Manchester United.

“I think they made good signings in the summer, they’ve made progress and led them to second, they’re competing.”

On Mourinho, McClaren added: “He’s quite chilled and relaxed about it. If he comes, he comes. If he doesn’t, doesn’t matter.

Starsport understands Mourinho is keen for United to move for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.

But it remains to be seen if the Red Devils will bring any players in before January 31.
