EC to publish updated voter list on Jan 31

New list includes 42,94,889 first time voters

The Election Commission (EC) will publish the updated voter list on January 31.
Some 42,94,889 new eligible voters have been included in the voter list, who will exercise their franchise in the upcoming 11th parliamentary polls in the country, said Acting Secretary of the EC Helaluddin Ahmed at a press conference in the Election Commission Bhaban in the city on Tuesday.
The new voters will get chance to correct their personal particulars and file any other complaints regarding the new list. They can apply for settling their objections or amendments in their voter ID up to January 17, said the secretary.
The authorities will settle all complaints of the new voter on January 22, he said adding that the EC will undertake the final decision by January 27 regarding this matter.  "After the end of the settlement of all objections or amendments, the EC will publish the updated voter list on January 31", Helaluddin said.
The draft of the updated voter list will be available at district and upazila election offices, ward councillors' offices in city corporations and municipalities as well as union parishad offices.
"The draft of updated voter list along with the signature of registration officer and other officials will be kept open for public inspection," said the secretary.
The secretary said the existing number of voters of the country is 10,14,40,601 crore. In the  updating process some 17,48,934 dead voters will be excluded from the existing voter list, he also informed.
According to the latest updated voter list, some 16,99,622 women and 16,32,971 males are being included in the existing voter list, but after scrutiny, this number may change, the secretary also said.
