The Delhi Police has rescued a month old child who had been kidnapped by his relatives from his residence in December 2017. Two men involved in the kidnapping have been arrested while others who were involved are being identified. Police have identified two women as the co-accused.
The two arrested men are residents of Sahibabad and Shastri Park in Delhi. The police did not reveal their names to keep their identities undisclosed as they said that more arrests are yet to be made.
Police on Tuesday said that the accused had hatched a plan to kidnap the infant nine months ago. “The accused along with his sister had hatched a plan to kidnap the baby. To show that the child is their own, the wife of the accused had told everyone in her neighbourhood in Bijnor that she is expecting a child. After the child was born on November 30, the woman, sister-in-law of the new mom, came along with her sister. On the night of the incident, they prepared tea and added sedatives to it. After kidnapping the infant, the woman’s sister returned home in Bijnor with the baby boy, while the woman continued to be around the infant’s real mother. She faked to be helping the mother, gave her emotional support,” said a senior police officer.
Police said that it was on December 12, information was received at Jahangirpuri police station in northwest Delhi regarding kidnapping of a 12 days old baby boy, from his residence in H-2 Block. “The father of the baby alleged that he and his wife were sleeping on second floor of their house along with his brother-in- law and his wife, in the same room. When he woke up at about 9.30 am, his new born was missing from the room,” said Aslam Khan, DCP northwest.
A police team then got the scene of crime thoroughly inspected and dog squad was also called in. On the basis of evidences gathered from the spot, it appeared to be an insider’s job, the officer said.
She said that a number of teams were assigned the task of developing information about the persons who might be behind the kidnapping among the relatives. “Call details of several persons were analysed. The exercise led to increased suspicion on the involvement of close relatives of the kidnapped baby. Accordingly, surveillance was mounted on the movement of the main suspects and finally, probe led to the recovery of the kidnapped baby from Saeed Nager, a locality of Sahibabad in Gaziabad. Two accused were also arrested,” the DCP said.
