On December 1, the mother picked up the girl and found her daughter was semi-unconscious, and had multiple injuries and bruises on her body. She was sent to a hospital where she was found to be suffering from bleeding in her brain and was admitted to an intensive care unit.

A prosecutor on Tuesday told the magistrate that the girl had regained consciousness after surgery but remained in the hospital for further treatment.

Before the hearing, the mother received a memory card from an anonymous source. The card allegedly contained a video recording that showed the defendants putting a binder clip on the girl's nose and scolding her. The abusive action lasted 10 minutes.

The magistrates' court earlier heard that the girl and her twin sister had been sentĀ in mid-November to be looked after by Chan in an apartment in Mong Kok, Kowloon. The twin sister was sent back home two days later, and no injury was found on her.

The magistrate on Tuesday adjourned the case to February 13 pending a police investigation on the authenticity of the video clip, as well as the girl's medical report.

The two defendants were remanded in custody.
