KEWANEE — Harold A. Dillon, 91, died at 9:56 pm on December 15, 2017, at his home in Kewanee. Harold was born August 10, 1926 in Kewanee, the son of Frank and Lena (Livek) Dillon. Harold graduated from Kewanee High School in 1944. Harold attended technical college at the Utility Engineering Institute and became a certified refrigeration engineer. Harold married Verna Ellenwood on September 12, 1948 in Kewanee.
Harold is survived by his wife, Verna; two daughters, Carol Dillon (Bryan Scott), Seattle, WA, Diane Price, Kenosha, WI; one son, Rich (Linda) Dillon, Wasco, IL; six grandchildren, Phil, Scott and Debbie Dillon, Drew, Danielle and Steph Price; nine great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert Dillon; and sister-in-law, Betty Dillon.
Harold served his country for two years during WWII in the Navy. He owned and operated Dillon’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning for 40 years, with his wife Verna. Harold served as president of the Henry County Builder’s Association for many years. In his early years he enjoyed water sports, instructing scuba diving, was a water safety instructor for the Red Cross, and a training officer for the Coast Guard. He was active in the Saddle Club and owned a blind horse “Babe”, who won many blue ribbons. Harold enjoyed being a boy scout leader for many years. He was private pilot with over 450 hours of flight time. Harold and Verna enjoyed many years of square dancing together with their dance club. His entire life he was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, canoeing, and camping with his family. Eventually he owned a cottage on the Mississippi where the family enjoyed many wonderful times together. In his retirement years he spent over 20 years traveling the country with Verna in the RV. Harold had time to pursue his rock hounding hobby and expanded into cutting a polishing rocks. He then became a silver and goldsmith, making and selling jewelry. He also loved acrobatic kite flying. Fishing was his life-long passion, which he enjoyed up until the end.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Monsignor Jerry Rafalko will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council.  Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Salvation Army.
