The ruling BJP on Wednesday forced an adjournment in the Rajya Sabha when the opposition demanded a division of votes over the triple talaq Bill.
After Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad tabled the Bill, Congress leader Anand Sharma moved a notice saying the Bill should be sent to a select panel, and even proposed names for the committee.
When asked is it Opposition to the bill or the Opposition doesn't want the issue to be settled, Ravi Shankar said, "It's plain and simple vote bank politics in the most naked form evident today in the Rajya Sabha. The Congress party supports the bill in Lok Sabha, it moves amendment but doesn't press for it."
