DU suspends teacher for moral degradation

The Dhaka University (DU) authority on Wednesday suspended a female teacher for one year from performing academic duties for her alleged moral degradation.

Clinical Psychology and Counseling department teacher Umme Kawsar Lota was relieved for one year for her alleged involvement in extra-marital affairs with another teacher of same department.

The decision was taken in an academic meeting of the department on Tuesday taking the allegation into account, said chairperson of the department Prof Mehtab Khanam.

Earlier on Saturday, Lota was found locked in the room of professor Akib Ul Haque of Psychology department and later rescued by the university proctorial team.

Professor Akib’s wife, Tahmina Sultana on the following day submitted a written complaint with DU VC and Chairperson of Psychology and Clinical Psychology and Counseling department demanding punishment of the duo.

Mentionable, the decision about another accused Professor Akib regarding the issue will be taken tomorrow (Thursday) in a meeting of his department.
