Tamil Nadu needs a political revolution: Rajinikanth

CHENNAI: Actor Rajinikanth, who announced his decision to launch a political party and field candidates in all the 234 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu in the next assembly polls, hopes his initiative will help set the "incorrect system" in the state right.
"Tamil Nadu had been in the forefront of several struggles in the past, right from the freedom struggle for the country. Once again, we have a situation in the state, where there is a need for a political revolution," Rajinikanth told the media in Chennai on Tuesday.
"It has to happen and we all have a responsibility. I am hoping the change will happen in this generation itself," he said.
Rajinikanth was meeting representatives of the media for thanking them in taking his message across the world in the "right way" over the past few days.
Everyone thought Rajinikanth was only a bus conductor before entering films and making it big. But the actor on Tuesday revealed another interesting part of his early life: "I was part of the media for some time. After my schooling, I briefly worked as a proof reader in a media house for a couple of months," he said.
After entering the film industry, his first interview was to a Tamil film magazine - 'Bommai' in the year 1976. "Even during the peak of 1996, (when he made those famous 'bomb culture' and 'even God cannot save Tamil Nadu' statements), beyond a couple of statements, I have not interacted with the media much. I am not used to it," he said.
"We are working on things like party name, flag and it policies. Once those are ready, I will address a press conference," he said, before posing for photographs with those who were keen to.
Earlier, while speaking to reporters near his residence, Rajinikanth clarified what he meant by spiritual politics. "Spiritual politics is something to do with being truthful and honest, and it is something beyond caste, creed and religion," he explained, to clear the air over people's attempt to link spiritualism with religion.
