It's been a topsy turvy year in entertainment, judging by the biggest stories that have dominated headlines at the NZ Herald this year.

Among our most popular entertainment stories clicked on over the past 12 months was The Block NZ's controversial live auction.

It had been a pretty tame season until the finale, when Hamilton dads Nate and Andy were allowed to auction their home for a second time, netting them the prize money.

That meant the couple that thought they'd won, Stace and Yanita, were left deeply disappointed.

The outcry didn't end there, with many wondering who this mystery bidder was during the auction and asking if he was an actor.

He later explained his reasons for being there.

And Stace and Yanita said there were no hard feelings between them and The Block's eventual winners, saying they "hugged it out".

Naz also stepped into the fray, with The Bachelor star blasting Mediaworks over their handling of a bullying incident involving contestants Ali and Julia.
