Chiles Restaurant Group manages farm in east Manatee County
Gamble Creek Farm has opened its farm gates to the public and is now selling farm fresh produce and other locally sourced and sustainable items with a current schedule of Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday is Bread Day with Head Baker, Teddy Louloudes of the Beach House Restaurant.
Gamble Creek Farm is a 26 acre farm growing organic, hydroponic and conventional row crops located at 14950 Golf Course Road in Parrish.
The Chiles Restaurant Group manages and supports the farm, which supplies much of the produce served at Chiles' restaurants: The Sandbar, Beach House and Mar Vista. The farm is operated by Eric Geraldson and his son Ryan, second and third generation Manatee County farmers.
The Gamble Creek Farmer’s Market will have a rotating variety of just-picked-from-the-fields produce such as lettuces, peppers, onions, squash, kale, Swiss chard, collards, and herbs as well as locally sourced fresh fruits such as apples, honeydew, pineapple, oranges, kiwis and lemons and limes.
In addition to produce, the farm stand will carry local honey, jams and jellies, potted herbs, flowers and fruit trees. Farm fresh eggs will be for sale based on availability and local meats and seafood, cheeses, soups, salads and more will eventually be for sale as the farm continues to build the “community inspired” program.
The Chiles Group now bakes all of the breads for their three restaurants in-house and will be selling freshly baked breads at the market. Fresh made pies, desserts and pastries, such as the Beach House’s blueberry cheesecake made with Jubilee Orchard Blueberries, will also be for sale.
Future plans for the farm include hosting family friendly, inspiring and educational community events, cooking classes, weddings and group gatherings while providing a warm, welcoming neighborhood venue to eat well and healthy and to buy local. The partnership between the restaurants and the farm will help establish the market as a one-stop-shop for a variety of locally sourced and sustainable items for residents and visitors.
