Bravettes remain undefeated, win State Farm Classic

BLOOMINGTON –– The Annawan Bravettes flexed its muscles and showed why they are the number-one ranked team in 1A with a 56-46 win over #2 Danville Schlarman in the small-school girls championship game at the State Farm Holiday Classic. Jayde VanHyfte tossed in 32 points for the Bravettes and became the all-time leading scorer in the tournament. She also hauled down 14 rebounds, despite being in foul trouble. Danville Schlarman (14-1) was given four technical fouls in the game and had a pair of fans ejected. Schlarman held a 9-7 edge after the first period. Midway through the second, standout guard Capria Brown picked up her third foul and was given a technical foul afterwards to saddle her with four first half fouls. Annawan hit 22 of 32 free throws in the game. VanHyfte made 14 of 17. Meanwhile the Hilltoppers shot 10 of 11 from the free throw line. The Bravettes (16-0) held a three point lead going into the fourth, before outscoring the Hilltoppers 20-13 to close it out. Keagan Rico added 10 for Annawan and Kaley Jackson had eight. Danville Schlarman was led by Notre Dame commit Anaya Peoples with 15 points. VanHyfte was named to the All-Tournament team. Annawan has now won 36 straight games overall, with its last loss coming to Danville Schlarman at the 2016 State Farm Classic.
