Sentara RMH did not wait long for the first baby of 2018

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Sentara RMH did not have to wait long for its first baby of 2018.

Sentara RMH's first baby of 2018 was a girl.

31 minutes into the new year, Josh Lutz became a parent.

"It was all just kind of sudden. I got the phone call that said, 'come down to the hospital,' and I got here. It was 12:18 when I got here," Lutz said. "She was born at 12:31 so I didn't have much time to think about it."

At 12:31 a.m., McKenzie Marie Lutz came into the world. But she didn't exactly give her dad much time to take in the moment.

"I asked the nurses two or three times before I finally found out," Lutz said. "And I walked past the nursery and I noticed that there weren't any other babies in there so I figured that she was going to be the first baby of 2018."

But McKenzie isn't home just yet. Lutz said she was born prematurely and right now is at UVA University Hospital.

So he's hoping for others to ring in the new year with a few little words for his little girl.

"She's doing really well. If anyone could lend out their prayers to our family that'd be great," Lutz said. "But for the most part I don't see where there's any problem. I think she's going to do great."
