Delays add to passengers's woes as some of them spent two days at New Delhi railway station.
Thick smog engulfed the capital on Monday (Image- ANI)Killer smog continues to choke the capital as train traffic was hit by decreased visibility.
Delhi welcomed the new year with poisonous smog still choking the city. The decreased visibility was the reason trains were running late with Sampoorna Kranti Express delayed for over 26 hours.
50 trains are running late while 15 have been cancelled.
Passengers say that they received messages from the railways informing them about the latest arrival time but the train has not arrived yet. Some of them have been on the New Delhi station close to two days with below 10 degrees temperature outside.
The smog has decreased visibility on Delhi roads as well. The average visibility remains around 100 metres but sometimes, the smog causes zero visibility as well. The smog has hit the vehicular traffic as well as citizens are compelled to drive carefully. But in spite of the precaution, there have been several road accidents because of the smog.
The weather department has indicated that the situation of smog will persist till 7th of January.
Air quality index depicted at Lodi road said that pm 2.5 levels in Delhi were at 500. For healthy air quality, the levels should be at 60
Similarly, pm 10 levels have reached an unhealthy 282. The increased levels indicate that the pollution levels in Delhi are 8 times the permissible level.
