HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) — Every year, millions of people start a plan to get fit in January as part of their New Year's resolutions.

But if you plan on exercising outside during the bone-chilling temperatures we're experiencing this week, you are going to want to wrap up.
Charlie Snyder, a manager at Blue Stone Bike and Run, said it is important to cover every part of your skin.
Wool is one of the best ways to stay warm while working out because of its ability to keep you warm while also absorbing sweat, according to Snyder.
Sweating is one of the main things that will make you cold during your winter workout and the prime reason to bundle up just the right amount, but not too much.
If you wear so many layers that the warmth causes you to sweat excessively when your body naturally heats up as you exercise, that sweat can freeze to your body, making you much colder than you would have been otherwise.
Snyder said while it's this cold, he keeps his running routes closer to his home.
"So just in case I do start losing feeling in my toes or fingers, I can kind of bail out," Snyder said. "Get home, get warm, just in case things take a turn for the worse."
Snyder said once you are done with your run, change out of any damp clothes so that your body can warm up quicker.
You also don't want to forget to hydrate, despite the cold. Dehydration can speed up the effects of hypothermia.
