Giants coaching search rumors: Eric Studesville interview set for Friday

Considering Spagnuolo is in the building, Gettleman and Co. presumably will knock that interview out in the next few days before turning their attention to outside candidates. Studesville will interview for the position on Friday, according to the NFL Network.

The Patriots have practice on Wednesday and Thursday before a break for their bye, so interviews with McDaniels and Patricia won't take place until the weekend. Former Patriots front office executive Michael Lombardi said interviews will likely take place on Saturday in Foxboro, Massachusetts. There could be a long line of owners and general managers trekking to Foxboro because McDaniels and Patricia have received interest from multiple teams.

The Panthers play the Saints in the Wild Card round on Monday, so Wilks won't be available until Monday, win or lose.

The Giants can't officially a hire a candidate until his team is eliminated from the playoffs.

New general manager Dave Gettleman said in his introductory press conference that he would encourage the new head coach to talk to the assistants currently on staff. But Gettleman clearly doesn't view any of the assistants as irreplaceable, as he reportedly gave them the freedom to begin searching for other jobs.

Gettleman could have blocked the assistants from seeking other jobs until their contracts ended/they were fired by a new coach. But this step is a professional courtesy from Gettleman, as assistants will look to catch on with another team as coaching changes happen across the league.
