Ledyard police arrest woman for DUI, stealing boyfriend's car

LEDYARD- A Rhode Island woman was arrested on drunk driving charges in Ledyard on New Year’s Day after stealing her boyfriend’s car, police said.

According to a press release,  Kelly A. Conti, 41, of Warwick, was arrested by Ledyard police for breach of peace, third-degree larceny, driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to drive right.

On the morning of New Year’s Day, police said they noticed a man walking on the side of Route 214 in the area of Avery Hill Road who was not dressed in warm clothing. They later determined he had been involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend, Conti, who had stolen his car and left him on the side of the road, police said.

Police said officers were sent to an undisclosed address in Ledyard to locate Conti. She was not in the home, though officers found her several houses down where she had been involved in a one-car crash with her boyfriend’s vehicle.

Police said she was found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was placed under arrest. She was held on $3,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Tuesday.
