Apple has admitted to slowing down older iphones to increase battery life as they degrade overtime.

The company is offering brand new batteries to users with older Iphone models for only $29, as opposed to the normal price of $79.

According to apple, swapping out an old battery with a new one will stop the device from being throttled, meaning your CPU won’t be slowed down.

However, for users with an iphone model older than the iphone 6, apple isn’t offering a discounted battery.

But before you show up to the apple store pounding your chest like king kong, smartphone repair shop Ifixit is offering a solution.

The company is matching apple and offering it’s DIY Iphone battery repair kits for the the Iphone 4s and newer.

With Ifixit’s service, the battery will be mailed to you and requires manual installation.

If you have an iphone model older than the 6 and replacing your own battery seems like a daunting task, then going to another third party repair shop or paying $79 at apple might be your only other options.
