Cops foil JCD rallies

126 injured, 38 arrested in four districts

More than 126 people, including ten policemen, were injured as the law enforcers foiled rallies of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), marking its 39th founding anniversary in different districts yesterday. 

Police arrested 38 people from different areas.

At least 26 BNP and JCD activists of Pabna district unit were arrested following a clash with the law enforcers that left over 30 people, including nine policemen, injured in the town, reports our correspondent.  

The injured include BNP central leader Hasan Zafir Tuhin, secretary of district unit BNP Habibur Rahman Tota, office secretary Johurul Islam and BNP activist Abul Kashem. Kashem was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, constables Masum Hossain and Mohsin Ali were admitted to Pabna Medical College Hospital, said Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Md Abdur Razzak.

The clash took place when police tried to resist a rally of district unit BNP-JCD, marking the founding anniversary.

Police charged batons to disperse the mob but the JCD activists hurled brick chips on the law enforcers, triggering the clash. At one stage, police fired 41 bullets and nine teargas shells to disperse the mob.

In Chuadanga, over 40 JCD leaders and activists were injured in a clash with police in the town, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

The clash took place when police tried to foil the rally of district unit JCD, marking its founding anniversary, said Joint Convener of district unit BNP Waheduzzaman Bula. 

According to our Thakurgaon correspondent, at least five people were injured as police charged baton to foil the rally of JCD in the town.

At least six people were arrested in this connection, said Sadar police.

Away in Mymensingh, at least 50 people, including a policeman hit by bullet, were injured in a clash between the law enforcers and JCD activists of Bhaluka upazila unit.

Police arrested six people in this regard, reports our correspondent.
