2018 begins with Super-moon in the sky

The fireworks may be long gone, but the first super-moon of 2018 illuminated the Sri Lankan sky making it the perfect welcome of the new year. At midnight Sri Lankans from many areas were able to witness the super-moon dubbed wolf moon.

The “wolf moon” is part of what NASA has called the “super-moon trilogy” – three super-moon in quick succession.

The first super-moon of the trilogy rose in December, the second will on January 2, and the third, a blue moon, will rise on January 31.

NASA is calling this the “biggest and brightest” one for the entire year and so far it isn’t disappointing.

The phenomenon “super-moon” occurs when the moon becomes full on the same day it reaches its perigee, the point in the moon’s elliptical orbit when it is closest to Earth.
