Five students killed as van rams into goods train in Bharuch

SURAT\BHARUCH: Five students were killed and six others sustained injuries when the van in which they were travelling rammed into a goods train at an unmanned railway crossing at Diyadara in Bharuch district on Sunday evening. The deceased, students of Diyadara Darul Ulum, had gone to Umraj village for Quran reading and were returning to Diyadara.
The deceased were identified as Mohamad Ayub Jorubha (18), Mohamad Sabir Kodar (18), Aman Abdul Chowkwala (17), Sabir Sadiq Malek (18) and Shanawaz Nazir Suba (13).

The injured have been admitted to the Bharuch Welfare Hospital.


The accident occurred at an unmanned railway crossing on Dahej-Bharuch broad gauge railway line at Diyadara. A vehicle and the van in which 13 people were travelling collided. As a result, the van got pushed towards the track when the goods train going toward Bharuch from Dahej was approaching. Three of the 13 died on the spot whereas two succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The van driver and another person escaped unhurt.


Bharuch taluka police registered a case of accidental death against van driver Yasir Umar Memon.


Police inspector D R Patel said, "The moment we came to know about the accident, we reached the spot and had the victims shifted to the hospital."
