Nissan Leaf 2018 price and specs for UK drivers revealed

New UK price and specs have been revealed.

Leaf is the world’s best-selling electric vehicle and the extensively revised 2018 model will hope to further broaden its appeal.

While the original car had a lot of desirable features, it now has more competition from other car manufacturers and needed an upgrade to avoid being left behind.

First deliveries of the car will begin in February this year, with prices for the entry-level Visia models starts from just £21,990 (including £4,500 Government Grant).

At the top of the range is the fully-equipped Tekna model which costs £33,655 (including £4,000 government grant).

There are five different trim levels for the new car which are:

• Visia – From £21,990

• Acenta – From £24,290

• N-Connecta – From £25,990

• Zero (Special Version – From £26,490)

• Tekna – From £27,490

Before delving into the car’s spec sheet you’ll notice its new styling and design.

The car now resembles other vehicles in its range such as the new Micra 2017 opposed to the quirky mechanical bug design of previous generation models.

In addition to the upgraded looks the car also feature higher battery capacity and ProPILOT technology.

ProPILOT is an advanced driver assistance system which will allow the car to drive itself during single-lane motorway driving.

Once activated, it can automatically control the distance to the vehicle in front, using a speed preset by the driver (between about 30 km/h and 100 km/h (19mph-62mph)).

It can also make steering inputs to keep the vehicle central in the lane and automatically apply the brakes and stop if necessary. The brake will then continue to hold the car and then accelerate automatically when traffic improves.

It’s not surprising unprecedented numbers of drivers are making the switch and going electric

Carl Bayliss, EV Category Manager Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd

Another new feature is the e-Pedal which will allow all accelerating and braking to be controlled using just one pedal - which is thought to improve range.

NEDC range is now rated 50 per cent higher than the 2017 model at 235 miles on a single charge, but real-world mile range is said to be around 150 miles.

Power has also increased by 38 per cent to 150PS compared to the outgoing model.

It also has 320Nm of torque and a top speed of 90mph.

The 40kWh battery can also be regenerated by 80 per cent in just 40 minutes.

Despite this range, pricing is £1,500 lower than the previous car.

Carl Bayliss, EV Category Manager Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd., said; “With the New all-electric motoring has never been more viable or affordable for almost any motorist.

“EV running costs are around 85  per cent less than petrol or diesel cars and maintenance is almost 75 per cent cheaper.

“There’s £0 VED, free London Congestion Charge and even free parking in some cities, not to mention convenient home charging.

“It’s not surprising unprecedented numbers of drivers are making the switch and going electric.”
