ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal says the visit of Sharif brothers to Saudi Arabia is not aimed at striking a deal with the “establishment.” He told reporters that media reports regarding engagements of the Sharif brothers in Saudi Arabia were completely baseless and out-of-context.

Ahsan said the baseless reports were meant to affect the popularity of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and asserted that at present Pakistan was facing severe threats and conspiracies were being hatched against it abroad.

The minister alleged that the All Parties’ Conference (APC), hosted by Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT), was aimed at spreading anarchy in Pakistan and fulfill the agenda of Pakistan’s enemies. He claimed the opposition wanted to have general elections 2018 postponed out of fear of defeat from the PML-N.

Meanwhile, a report said that the Sharifs’ visit to Saudi Arabia is intended to find a workable solution to easing tensions on Pakistan’s eastern and western frontiers in the wake of President Donald Trump’s national security policy.

The ever-changing geo-strategic scenario, warranting instant political micromanagement, has necessitated the top decision makers to speed up the diplomatic efforts for averting an impending disaster in South Asia.

With Pakistan put on notice by the US via Afghanistan and the threats by India of some sort of surgical strikes in the mainland, the power hubs of Pakistan simply could not wait for even a slight escalation of hostility. It could lead to warming of nuclear tips amidst huge conventional warfare imbalance in favour of Pakistan on both sides, it is feared.
