BNP plans Jan 5 rally at Suhrawardy Udyan

BNP will hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital and bring out black flag processions at district and upazila headquarters level on Friday (January 5), to observe “Democracy Killing Day”, said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed yesterday.

“The ruling Awami League killed democracy in the country by holding the one-sided election on January 5, 2014. Since then, we have been observing the day as Democracy Killing Day,” said Rizvi at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan office in the capital.

Responding to a query, Rizvi said, “We sent a letter to the authorities concerned on Saturday, seeking permission for the rally and procession.”

But, they did not get any permission yet, he added.

BNP boycotted the immediate past general election held on January 5, 2014, demanding restoration of the caretaker government provision.
