MARION COUNTY — A 73-year-old woman was scammed out of $1,000 worth of gift cards by a caller who said the woman’s grandson was being held in jail and needed bond money, according to a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report.
The Dec. 31 report said the victim got a call around 10 a.m. on Dec. 19 from someone who identified himself as law enforcement, who said her grandson was being held and needed to post bond.
The victim was told to get two $500 gift cards and then contact the caller with all the information on the cards, including the PIN numbers.
