Signal No. 1 in 7 areas as 'Agaton' moves towards Palawan

MANILA, Philippines — Seven areas remain under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 due to Tropical Depression Agaton.

In its 11:00 a.m. advisory, Pagasa said that Agaton is bringing cloudy weather and heavy rains to the Visayas, and Bicol regions and to Palawan.

As of 10:00 a,m., the center of Agaton was located 170 kilometers west of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

It packs maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour and  is moving west at 28 kph.

Signal No. 1 is currently hoisted over the following areas:

  • Palawan including Cuyo Island
  • Bohol
  • Guimaras
  • Negros Oriental
  • Negros Occidental
  • Southern Antique
  • Southern Iloilo

Agaton made landfall five times since 1:00 a.m. of Tuesday over the following areas:

  • Claver, Surigao del Norte
  • Jagna, Bohol
  • Santander, Cebu
  • Bais City, Negros Oriental

Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains are also expected over the Bicol region, Eastern Visayas and over Panay Island, Romblon and Mindoro.

The weather bureau said that Agaton is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility Wednesday afternoon.

According to forecast track, Agaton will be 275 km west northwest of Puerto Princesa City on Wednesday morning.

On Thursday morning, it will be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, 540 km off Pagasa Island in Palawan.

"Seaboards of Northern Luzon and Southern Luzon, eastern seaboards of Central, eastern and western Seaboards of Visayas and eastern seaboard of Mindanao due to the surge of the Northeast Monsoon," Pagasa also said.
