Dancing On Ice 2018: Perri Shakes-Drayton was WARNED about show ‘It’s a risk I'll take’

DANCING ON ICE star Perri Shakes-Drayton has revealed that she was warned about the show before signing up to it by her coach.

The athlete, 29, is about to take part in the ITV talent show when it returns later this month, but was told to be careful by her track and field coach after gaining an injury to her knee.

Perri revealed: “My coach was a bit cautious about me coming on the show because I’ve had a knee injury previously, but I got told that I wouldn’t be able to run again but now I am and I’ve had no issues so far.

“I want to prove to myself and anyone who ever doubted me that I have been able to come back, race, win a silver medal at the World Championships and now do this show.

Perri also confessed to being comfortable on the ice and can already go backwards

“I’ve not been put off by having an injury in the past, it is spurring me on more to prove I can do it. I injured myself running - you can hurt yourself anywhere. There is a team behind us that look after us and it’s a risk I’m willing to take.”

What’s more, the track and field competitor has confessed to being quite comfortable on the ice, after spending her childhood skating with her cousins.

She explained: “I can go forward and backwards, I’ve got the basics but it’ll be interesting to see how much I can improve my skating.

“I would rate myself as a seven out of 10 at the moment. I want to be a nine by the end. Well you want to be a 10 really.

“I’ve got the basics but there is room for improvement,” Perri said.

Dancing On Ice returns to ITV on January 7 at 6pm.
