Air Quality Index readings put areas like Shadipur and Dwarka in the 'Hazardous' and 'Very Unhealthy' categories.
Apart from chilly weather, Delhi witnessed the New Year come in with dense fog. Visibility remained extremely low making travelling by road quite risky.
Sources said that this was probably the season's densest fog in the city. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in areas like Shadipur, Dwarka and Siri Fort were 332, 257 and 388 respectively this morning.
The readings have put these areas between 'Hazardous' and 'Very Unhealthy'. Five domestic and seven international flights were delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport. A thick fog cover was seen in the national capital with early morning reports claiming low visibility in Safdarjung. Fifty six trains in Delhi were delayed, 20 rescheduled and 15 cancelled due to low visibility in the region.
