UCLA's Josh Rosen and USC's Sam Darnold were considered the top quarterback prospects entering this season. There are more questions now, especially about Darnold.
Darnold, 20, took a step back in his second season as a starter, culminating in a rough showing in USC's 24-7 loss to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl on Friday. Darnold has two years of eligibility remaining and there's a realistic chance that he returns to USC for another season of development.
Rosen, 20, also has a year of eligibility remaining, but it would be a surprise if he doesn't declare for the draft before the Jan. 15 deadline. Rosen is the most polished quarterback prospect on the field, but there are some concerns about his attitude and the two concussions he suffered this season.
If the Giants are intent on taking a quarterback — and it should be a priority with Eli Manning set to turn 37 on Wednesday — the doomsday scenario would be if Darnold stays in school and Rosen goes to the Browns with the first pick.
If Rosen and Darnold declare for the draft, the Giants will be in position to pick Manning's successor, assuming they're high on both quarterbacks.
