Ex-councilor shot dead in Habiganj

A former ward councilor and alleged drug trader was shot dead in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj district Sunday midnight.

The deceased, Eunus Mia, 40, former councilor of 9 no. ward of Chunarughat municipality and an alleged drug trader, Chunarughat Police Station officer-in-charge Ajmiruzzaman said.

On secret information that a group of four to five including Eunus were taking drug in Magurunda village in Paikpara area around 12:00am, a team of elite force conducted drive in the area, he said.

Sensing presence of the team, the drug peddlers attacked on police with domestic arms, forcing them to open fire to the drug traders.

During the firing, Eunus among other drug traders received bullet-hit injury, the OC added.

He was taken to Chunarughat Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Meanwhile, the police station sub-inspector Ataur Rahman was injured in the attack by drug traders.
