Philadelphia woman killed in Dagsboro accident

Incident occurred at Routes 113 and 26.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Thursday, Dec. 28, at the intersection of Route 113 (DuPont Boulevard) and Route 26 (Clayton Street) in Dagsboro.

The incident occurred at about 1:15 p.m., as a 2017 Honda CRV operated by 75-year-old Geraldine M. Scanlan, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was stopped in the southbound left turn lane of Route 113 at the intersection with Route 26. At the same time, a 2014 Honda Odyssey, being operated by a 44-year-old Wilmington woman, was traveling northbound in the left lane of Route 113, approaching the intersection with Route 26.

Scanlan initially stopped at the red light, however, for unknown reasons, she then proceeded forward and entered the northbound travel lane, where was struck by the Odyssey. She was transported by EMS to Beebe Healthcare, where she was later pronounced dead.

The operator of the Odyssey and two passengers were properly restrained and uninjured.  A juvenile was also properly restrained but sustained a minor injury.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has assumed the investigation from the Dagsboro Police Department and is continuing their review into this incident. Impairment does not appear to be a contributing factor on behalf of either operator at this time.
