'SLTB bus strike' in North
The bus operators of Sri Lanka Transport Board in the Northern Province have struck work today (Jan. 01).

They protest against the closure of the SLTB bus terminal in Vavuniya.

The reports say that the SLTB bus terminal in Vavuniya was closed down from midnight yesterday (Dec. 31) on a directive by the Northern Province Chief Minister C. V. Vigneswaran.

However, the SLTB staff is refusing to use the new terminal which has the facilities to operate both the SLTB and private buses.

The new terminal was declared opened in January last year.

However, the operators of SLTB and private buses constantly clash over timetables and other issues, which has led to the SLTB workers refusing to use the new terminal.
