182 cops win awards for best service

Police Week begins Jan 8

Around 182 policemen will be honoured with the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President Police Medal (PPM) at the Police Week-2018 beginning on January 8.

106 police officials have been selected for the honour for their outstanding contributions in conducting anti-militancy operations, Md Moniruzzaman, additional deputy inspector general of intelligence and special affairs of PHQ said.

The other 42, who suffered severe injuries are being awarded for their bravery and courage in anti-militancy operation and fighting with terrorists, the official added.

Three officers are getting award for sacrificing their life in a bomb blast during anti-militancy operation codenamed “operation Twilight” on March 25 in Sylhet, he further said.

These three officers are  Lt Col Abul Kalam Azad, intelligence wing director of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), Chowdhury Abu Mohammad Kaiser, an inspector of court police in Sylhet, Monirul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Jalalabad Police Station.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will award medals to police and Rab members in Dhaka's Razarbagh Police Lines. Among them, 30 will also receive BPM-service and 53 will be honoured with PPM-service awards.

Some 71 officials will receive PPM-courage while 30 others with BPM-courage recognising their courageous performance and valiance round the year, said Moniruzzaman.

The cop said 86 of the awardees are ranked between constables to Inspector. Some constables are being getting recognition for their extraordinary performance in society.

Three officials of Police Bureau of Investigation and one of Tourist police are getting award for their efficiency. Some 12 female officials are also awarded for their extra-ordinary role in the service.

Among the high officials of police, who are getting award this year for their role in anti-militancy drive and combating crime identified as Mokhlesur Rahman, additional inspector general (admin), Shafiqul Islam, additional IGP of anti terrorism unit, Asaduzzaman Mia, DMP commissioner, Monirul Islam, chief of counter terrorism unit, Md Moniruzzaman, additional DIG of Intelligence and special affairs of PHQ, Sheikh Hemayet Hossain, additional IGP of CID and Md Asaduzzaman, SP Bogra.
