Drive aimed at the disabled, Sr citizens get warm response

The drive being undertaken by the district authorities since August 2017 to contact and check the well being of senior citizens, differently abled and old people in poor families has been eliciting a good response from the public in Pauri.

People from different spheres of society including political representatives, student leaders and organisations have appreciated this social work undertaken by the police on the directions of the senior superintendent of police Jagat Ram Joshi in the different parts of Pauri district. The drive is aimed at identifying the old and needy senior citizens with family or living alone, and to provide possible assistance to them like presenting them woolen quilts during the winter. The people have also expressed their willingness to donate the unused clothes to the police, so that these may be distributed to the needy persons.

The Pauri SSP contacted more than 70 old persons in the village Sarooli of Pauri Block in the district on the weekend and distributed 10 quilts to the needy old women. This drive has been conducted once in a month and 966 old, poor and disabled persons were contacted by the police personnel in the district with 79 quilts being distributed to the needy old persons. The maximum persons were contacted by Kotdwar police station- 280 followed by Srinagar police at 247, Pauri police at 150 and Lakshman Jhoola police meeting 110.
