DUBAI, 1st January, 2018 (WAM) -- The Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia), under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), has held its 4th meeting for this year, chaired by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia.
The meeting tackled Suqia's achievements and projects, during Q4 of the Year of Giving, preparations for the Year of Zayed and the second Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. Suqia oversees the award, which is worth USD1 million, and encourages research institutions, individuals and innovators all over the world to find sustainable and innovative solutions to address the problem of clean water, by using solar power.
"Suqia will continue its developmental initiatives and projects during the year of Zayed to support the UAE's efforts in commemorating the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and continue his journey in doing good and lending a helping hand to the needy all over the world. Suqia will continue its initiatives and sustainable development projects inside and outside the UAE, to provide potable water to the needy, the disadvantaged, and those who are in distress around the world," said Al Tayer.
Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia, discussed Suqia's key projects, in cooperation with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment and the Emirates Red Crescent, saying that over 8 million people have benefitted from Suqia's projects so far.
The meeting also discussed Suqia's initiatives to spread awareness among children and the younger generation on water issues and conservation of natural resources. The educational programme is organised by DEWA and Suqia, in collaboration with Surge; a global non-profit organisation.
