The Jharkhand Khadi Board is all set to preserve India’s second biggest spinning wheel decked up on the premises of Khadi Saras Mela. Chairperson, Jharkhand State Khadi and Village Industries, Sanjay Seth during a press meet on Sunday has asked for suggestions as where India’s second biggest Charkha can be installed after the conclusion of the mega Khadi Saras event.
Seth while sharing the details of this, said, “Suggestions of installing India’s second biggest Charkha at Ranchi Railway Station, Project Bhawan, Birsa Munda Airport has come. The board wants to install the biggest spinning wheel at a prominent location, where it will remind the public about the Saras Mela and promote Gandhian ideology.” Notably, the spinning wheel is approximately 20 ft while its width is 35 ft and has grabbed the attention of public.
Seth also presented a brief record of the ongoing Khadi Saras Mela during the press meet. According to the Chairperson, the ongoing event by far has seen huge footfall. Seth further added that the artisans from the rural areas are benefitting much out of this fair in comparison to other stall owners. The special arrangements made by the board to promote indigenous products here at the fair are giving fruitful results.
From roping in several Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to engaging women of interior locations by providing them a platform to earn decent livelihood through allocating free stalls, Seth said that the fair this year is receiving much appreciation both from public and stall owners. Also, during the occasion, Seth said that this year as well, around 60 to 70 percent transaction has been done through cashless medium.
In addition, Seth said that special programmes like conducting career counseling from 12 PM to 3 PM on fair premises is gaining tremendous response from the students besides the cultural activities that too registers strong presence among the people.
Seth added that the board is trying to involve more public from different strata of the society through different activities being conducted on daily basis. On Sunday, children of Cheshire Home visited the fair and celebrated New Year Eve. Seth said that in the coming days, more captivating activities will be organized in association with different groups and State Government departments.
