The Bhitarkanika National Park located in Kendrapara district in Odisha would be out of bounds for travellers with an aim to prepare for the annual census of estuarine crocodiles.
Forest department of the region has imposed a seven-day ban that commences on 3rds January to check noise pollution in the headcount operation of the reptiles, as per the official account of BP Acharya who is the Divisional Forest Officer of Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) division.
Acharya said that there would be a prohibition on the entry of visitors to the national park area in this period to make sure that there is a smooth and disturbance-free head count operation of saltwater crocodiles.
The objective is to keep the place free from human interference when the exercise is underway as mentioned by the officials.
This 145-square kilometers Bhitarkanika National Parl is based in the delta of rivers Brahmani, Dhamara and Baitarani and Dhamara and is one of the ideal spots for trekking, camping and Dhamara.
The official has said that the national park would be cancelling entry permits for tourists in the ban period.
Tourists and nature-lovers can visit the park after the week-long haul is lifted according to the DFO.
The head count would be carried out under the supervision of wildlife personnel.
The enumerators would seek crocodiles in the river system of Bhitarkanika and the numerous water inlets, nullahs and innumerable creeks, they have said.
