Revelers at the 'First Night' celebration in Morris County will be enjoying two fireworks shows, the latter happening just after midnight.
The rest of the annual, family-friendly celebration is happening inside Sunday night, as the region continues to grapple with subfreezing temperatures.
At Morristown High School, adults were square dancing while young children were playing with Legos and hula hoops, among other activities.
"We've worked really hard to weather-proof the event," said First Night Director Greg Schlosser.
First Night in Morristown got underway at 4:45 p.m., with the temperature expected to drop to 8 degrees outside by midnight.
Shuttle buses from parking areas were running every 5 to 10 minutes, aimed at minimizing the time arrivals had to wait outside.
"The wind has been more than originally forecast. That's the hardest thing," Schlosser said.
First Night has been held every year in Morris County since 1992.
