Pulling up socks to ensure smooth passage to the New Year, Ranchi Police on Sunday conducted special drive to check safety and security arrangements in the city hotels and restaurants for revelers. As many as 45 magistrates and 400 cops would be deputed in and around the Capital City to avoid any untoward incident on December 31 and January 1.

“We are visiting each and every hotel and restaurant in Ranchi to check whether they have fulfilled the safety norms set by the District Administration,” said City DSP Rajkumar Mehta. A total of five teams have been formed for the purpose, which are visiting each and every hotel and restaurant where arrangement for the New Year Party has been made by the hotel management, he added.

“It is being verified whether they have been fulfilling the fire safety, excise and security norms as per the provisions of district administration and where it has been found missing, they are being asked to get it done before the New Year Party,” said Mehta.

Police are on high alert to ensure a smooth passage to the New Year, with special attention to roads and crowd magnets in and around the capital, he added.

“All the Police Stations have also been asked to conduct regular patrolling in their areas on the two days and also keep a close eye in the crowded areas by deputing policemen in civil uniform,” said the DSP. Women constables will also be there to check the incidents of eve teasing, he added.

Following a joint order passed by the District Administration and Ranchi Police, 45 Magistrates and 400 cops would be deputed on city roads and picnic spots to avoid any untoward incident on December 31 and January 1.

Meanwhile, intensive checking drive is also being conducted by the Traffic Police to check drunken driving as a precautionary measure to avoid accidents during New Year celebrations. Traffic Police said that the Driving license of the persons riding or driving a vehicle in the influence of alcohol will be cancelled.

“Our personnel have been deputed at all vulnerable locations along with the breath analysers with them to check everyone driving on the road whether he is on a two-wheeler or four-wheeler,” said the SP. Nobody, whoever he is, will be allowed to violate traffic routes, he added.

Remarkably, the anti-drunken driving drive was started a bit earlier this year to propagate a message among the hooligans to refrain from driving after taking drinks during this New Year.
