THE Royal Mint has unveiled four coins for 2018 that celebrate “key events that have shaped the country as we know it today”.
A £2 coin will mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War Armistice, the agreement between the Allies and the Germans on November 11, 1918.
Wilfred Owen’s poem Strange Meeting is quoted: “The truth untold, the pity of war”.
Owen said he aimed to expose the true horror of war in contrast to the “glory, honour, might, majesty, dominion, or power” that war poems traditionally addressed.
Mary Shelley’s ground-breaking science-fiction novel Frankenstein will be celebrated on another £2 coin to mark the 200th anniversary of its publication on January 1, 1818.

The third will be a 50p commemorating the 1918 Representation of the People Act, which gave women over 30 the right to vote, along with servicemen over 19 and men over 21.
The RAF badge will also appear on a £2 coin, celebrating 100 years since its formation in April 1918.
Other recent commemorative £2 coin designs include three created in 2016 to mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death.
Rare commemorative £2 coin designs can sell for over £70 on Ebay.
