After an evening spent celebrating the end of the 2017 and welcoming 2018, many might find it tough to get out of bed this morning.
Whether it was that last glass of champagne or one too many shots at the bar, the people who served up your favorite drinks last night reveal their best New Year’s Day hangover cures.
Bacon
Mike Anderson, a brewer at Bent River Brewing Co., said a salty, fatty breakfast does the trick to replenish your lost electrolytes and leave you feeling ready for the day.
Hawaiian Punch mixed with 7-Up
This was Paddlewheel Lounge owner Dunker Lietch’s go-to remedy in his younger years. While he admits the concoction probably did not work all that well, it provides some fluids and a burst of sugar.
Alcohol
Eric Lee, owner of The Som, only had two words: “More booze.” While this traditional strategy might simply be hangover procrastination, at least a tomato-juice filled Bloody Mary might restore some much needed vitamins.
The cold
With temperatures below freezing, Martini’s bartender Logan Patterson said a quick jaunt outside might just knock the hangover right out of you.
“Go stick your head in the snow when you wake up in the morning,” he joked. “That should help.”
If that doesn’t do it, then maybe a banana milkshake.
And the internet says
A quick online search offered an even longer list of possible hangover cures.
A WebMD article suggested incorporating burnt toast into your breakfast the morning after a night of heavy drinking. The carbon from the charred parts helps to filter impurities in your stomach.
BBC made the case for a virgin Bloody Mary, without the alcohol, or simply ginger tea to soothe your stomach.
A writer for Thrillist recently tested and ranked several hangover remedies including Pedialyte, chicken noodle soup and pickle juice. His top hangover cure? Working out. Maybe it’s time to start those New Year’s resolutions to hit the gym early.
If all else fails, it might be time to get a big glass of water, snuggle up in a warm blanket and wait it out.
“A good Netflix playlist the following day and you should be all set,” said Anderson.
