Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres will play Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers in the 10th anniversary game if the NHL Winter Classic on Monday, January 1, 2018 (1/1/18) at Citi Field in New York.

More to know: The Buffalo Sabres and New York Rangers will be playing in their second Winter Classic. The Sabres played in the inaugural game against the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2008, where the Penguins took a a 2-1 shootout victory at  Ralph Wilson Stadium.

The Rangers beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, in 2012 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

The Rangers enter Monday's game in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division with 45 points. The trail the Washington Capitals, Devils and Columbus Blue Jackets. The Sabres are in last place in the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference with 28 points.

Lundqvist has never lost an outdoor game with the Rangers. He has started all three outdoor contests the team has participated in, and he has a 3-0-0 record with a 2.00 GAA and 933 save percentage. That record includes a 7-3 win over the New Jersey Devils in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series at Yankee Stadium.

The game will also feature the selection of members for Team USA at the 2018 Winter Olympics for ice hockey and Paralympic sled hockey.
