Run with the hare and hunt with the hound seems to be the policy of the BJP on issue of slum eviction by the Railways in Rourkela, alleged the Congress.
In a Press briefing, Rourkela DCC president Biren Senapaty alleged that the BJP’s role is dubious on the issue of slum eviction by the Railways for the construction of the 3rd line of Howrah-Mumbai line. He further alleged that for the last two years, the railway authority under the plea of 3rd line construction has been putting hundreds of slum dwellers in panic for eviction.
Senapaty also criticized the recent meeting of the BJP leaders under the leadership of Union Minister Jual Oram.
Senapaty said while the construction work in the upline of Howrah-Mumbai route was held in the left side from the starting point, why it was shifted to the right side from Rourkela is a matter of inquiry. Due to this, more than 1,000 poor slum dwellers are forced to be evicted. It was only modified to protect the BJP leaders’ hotels and moneyed people’s automobile show room, petrol pump, nursing home and business units, charged Senapaty.
So instead of requesting the Minister for deferring the eviction work for some days, it would be better for the local BJP leaders to ask the Railway Minister the reason of changing the construction site and making it public.
Now, the poor slum dwellers have understood the nasty vote politics of BJP and in due time, they will give the befitting reply to it, he said.
The Congress has from the beginning objected to the eviction without rehabilitation and at any cost, the party will not allow the eviction without prior rehabilitation, warned Senapaty.
