Arsenal news: Wenger WRONG to criticise Mike Dean, West Brom deserved penalty - Cottee
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger was wrong to criticise Mike Dean following the Gunners’ 1-1 draw with West Brom yesterday.
That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit and former West Ham striker Tony Cottee.
West Brom scored a contentious late penalty at the Hawthorns after Dean adjudged Calum Chambers to have handled the ball.
Jay Rodriguez slotted the spot kick away and cancelled out James McClean’s own goal which had put Arsenal ahead less than 10 minutes earlier.
Wenger slammed Dean and his fellow officials after the game, saying referees have not improved since they became professional.

But Cottee believes Arsene Wenger was wrong and the correct decision was made.
“If you watch what he does he puts his hand there, his hand is in front of his chest because he’s worried about the ball hitting him on the chest,” he said.
“Let it hit you on the chest. You can see Mike Dean actually lifts his arm up to say he lifted his arm.
“We’ll see Mike Dean’s view, I think it’s a penalty.

“It’s harsh, it’s handball, but more importantly from Mike Dean’s view, he only gets one look at it.
“We’re not disputing if it’s hit him on the hand, of course it has, but I think he puts his arm in the way of his chest.

Arsenal moved up to fifth in the Premier League table, with north London rivals Tottenham not playing until tomorrow against Swansea.
