Arvind Singh has written to Smriti Irani requesting that Prasoon Joshi be removed from his post as the CBFC chief.
The makers of Padmavati may be rejoicing after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) decided to grant the film a U/A certificate after making five modifications, including changing the film's title to Padmavat, but Arvind Singh, a member of the former royal family of Mewar, is not at all happy.
Singh was a member of the special panel which viewed Padmavati along with the examining committee of the CBFC before its clearance. Upon viewing the film, he had raised objections and recommended that the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film not see the light of day.
With the CBFC deciding to greenlight Padmavati without his consent, Singh has written a letter to Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani seeking the removal of Prasoon Joshi as the board' chief.
Singh had earlier told India Today that he opposed the release of the film, "There is no question of consensus being formed. This decision was not ours... From my side, there definitely was a recommendation that the film be not allowed to release. In this film of 2 hours 41 minutes, there were some controversial facts. This film can upset both Rajput and Muslim community."
This is the second letter of dissent from the former royal family. Earlier, Vishvaraj Singh had written to Prasoon Joshi, "Cosmetic changes like the proposed change in name will not change the fact that that the movie refers to real places, my ancestors and other persons in history with their names continuing to remain the same."
Padmavati, which stars Deepika Padukone,
Ranveer Singh and
Shahid Kapoor, was supposed to hit the theatres earlier this month, but its release date has now been indefinitely pushed by the makers.
