New Year's Day's Video Forecast

By  |

Sunday morning's low of -21° at Rapid City Regional Airport set a record low temperature for December 31st. A high temperature of -6° was the coldest daytime high since January of 1997. Records will be broken in some places again by New Year's morning, with lows colder than -20° in many places. Most of the area will get above the 0°F mark for the first time in around 60 hours by New Year's afternoon with mostly sunny conditions. High temperatures will range from 0° to the north, to right around 15° in the southern part of the viewing area. A Wind Chill Advisory is in place for northeast Wyoming and most of the Black Hills. The rest of western South Dakota has a Wind Chill Warning in effect, lasting through most of Monday morning.

We expect to get back in the 20s and possibly 30s starting Tuesday. Above normal temperatures return later in the week. No real strong precipitation chances are in the short-term forecast.
