FPI hails move against triple talaq

| | BHUBANESWAR | in Bhubaneswar

The Freethought Party of India (FPI) has hailed the passage of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017 in the Lok Sabha on December 28.

The party congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Government for making triple talaq a prisonable offence as the offender is to be awarded with a 3-year jail term.

Those who are crying hoarse that it would affect the traditional order in the Muslim society should know that India is a socialist secular republic and there should not be any degree of discrimination among the Indian citizens on the ground of caste, religion and ethnicity.

The Congress that ruled India for decades together should have brought in the uniform civil code as promised under Article 44 of the Constitution, it said.

With regard to social reforms, the BJP is clearly much ahead of the hypocritical Congress, SP, RJD, BSP, TMC, NCP, CPM etc and prior to 2019 general elections, the Modi Government  must implement the Uniform Civil Code, it said.
