PM asks to explore new markets

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the businessmen to take steps for exploring new markets to expand market of Bangladeshi products.

She said this while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of ‘the 23rd Dhaka International Trade Fair’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Monday (January 01). She opened the mega event at the function.

Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh is making progress, more progress is needed. “We need to expand our markets. Apart from producing new products, export has to be increased; new markets have to be explored. That is how our trade and commerce will bloom,” she said.

She hoped that the foreign participants will receive a positive message of the country's trade and investment-friendly environment from the trade fair. Her government attached top priority to foreign investment and export of commodities, she said.

She also said that incentives are being given to small and medium industries in order to flourish. Policies are being made and then implemented to increase investment. Investment development authority has been constituted so that all the facilities are available for domestic and foreign investors, she added.

The PM further said that Bangladesh is ahead of South Asian countries in terms of socio-economic development. Bangladesh is a wonder to the World Bank's Social Development Index. Bangladesh will surpass western countries in 2050.

“Bangladesh has achieved self-dependence. The country is not dependent on anyone. Now, 90 % of the development project is being financed by its own found. Our goal is to build up a prosperous golden Bangladesh of the Father of the Nation,” she said.

The trade fair has begun begin at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar in the capital city, west side of the BICC following inauguration by the PM.

Ministry of Commerce and Export Promotion Bureau jointly arranged it. The mega-event is held every year in order to showcase Bangladeshi products to boost exports.

About 21 countries are participating in the fair. The countries include India, Pakistan, China, Bhutan, Nepal, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Germany, Hong Kong and Arab Emirates.
