SUNDAY'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: UNI pounds Valparaiso

CEDAR FALLS — Northern Iowa stayed undefeated in the first week of Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball play with a 77-56 win over Valparaiso on Sunday at the McLeod Center.

Ellie Howell led UNI (6-7 overall, 2-0 conference) with 21 points. Nicole Kroeger had 16. Megan Maahs had 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Dani Franklin led Valparaiso (7-6, 0-2) with 18 points.

Oklahoma 74, Iowa State 69

AMES —Iowa State was unable to complete its comeback against Oklahoma, falling to the Sooners at Hilton Coliseum.

The loss drops ISU to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 play, while OU improves to 6-7, 1-1.

Bridget Carleton led Iowa State with 21 points, her 15th career game over 20 points. Madison Wise had 15 points and Adriana Camber had 12.

ISU bounced back from a third-quarter deficit of 10 and a fourth-period deficit of 11 to cut the Sooner lead to one possession on multiple occasions.
