1,337MW electricity added to national grid in 2017: PDB

The country's installed power generation capacity increased by 1,337 megawatts in the last one year from December 30, 2016 to December 30, 2017.

According to the official statistics on the website of state-owned Power Development Board (PDB), the installed capacity rose to 13,701MW from 12,364MW during the period.

Data show the number of power plants increased to 112 at the end of 2017 from 108 in December 2016.

The government has set a target to increase the power generation to 24,000MW by 2021.

State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid has recently said his ministry was making all-out efforts to increase the generation capacity by 3000MW in 2018.
